A leading group, two main activities, a worldwide presence
The Wheelabrator Allevard group has grown up around two major activities:
- Steel abrasive, a field in which Wheelabrator Allevard has invested since 1960 and is today a world leader.
- Diamond tools, a sector in which Wheelabrator Allevard has been active since 1990 and has gained around 5% of what is still a highly fragmented market.
Steel abrasive has two main applications:
- The metal industry: a market representing over 1 million tonnes. Steel shot and grit is used to clean metal parts, prepare surfaces before coating and improve fatigue strength.
- The stone-cutting industry: a market representing 250,000 tonnes. Steel grit is used in multi-blade gangsaws to cut blocks of granite into fine slabs.
The diamond tools branch comprises two divisions:
- Diamond tools for stone cutting
The main customers are quarry operators and the stone-processing industry. From the extraction stage – where there has been huge growth since diamond wires have replaced explosives – to cutting and polishing, a very wide range of products is offered.
- Diamond tools for the construction industry
A high-performance range of laser-welded segmented diamond discs has been developed specially for the construction and public works professional distribution market.
